TRULY COOL CAST
TRULY COOL cast couldn't get any better and how we all got together is a quite interesting story.
When I came up with the film idea I already had the whole cast planned in my mind, since I have lots of great friends actors, they are always lined up in my mind for all the characters I can dream of.
But somehow each one of them that I had in mind for the characters were already busy working in another big project at the time.
I thought about waiting to match their availabilities to shoot the film, but since I'm not very good at waiting, perhaps for previous bad waiting experiences, I decided to keep going with the shooting schedule as I had planned: the following week; and posted the casting brief on AT2, on a very early sunday morning, with a dealine till monday night, to have a rehearsal time on tuesday, and shoot wednesday and thursday.
I must say I was feeling quite brave to proceed with such a narrowed time plan.
No auditions of course.
The plan was to cast the actors only going with my gut feelings believing I would find the perfect ones for each characters only through headshots, resumes and with some possible showreels.
I had a big wedding party to go on the whole sunday, so I coudn't do any work in it on sunday, so monday was the casting day!
I was quite amazed with the number of submissions for the film, and a lot of people really stand out making my mission to make a decision quite challenging.
It made me already start thinking of the next films projects to get to cast everybody in a big film event!
But I could only cast 3 now.
For the ones reading this who by any chance read the casting brief published on AT2, and is wondering why I post a character brief for "Nat" as well since I ended up playing Nat, here is the answer: I was already planning to play Nat since Nat is inspired by my personal battles with the ones I love, but since it was such a short notice production and I did have the experience before of having dificulty to find the right actor for a certain character, I decided to post the brief for both female characters then, and in last case if I could'n find a Becky but found the perfect Nat, then I could play Becky and have someone else play Nat.
Also Nat and Becky were supposed to be sisters, but that was really pushing considering the little time I had and considering my "exotic look" as people call it, so I left that open.
But I got really lucky and found the perfect Becky!

continuing...
I spent the whole day looking over 200 submissions trying to find the TRULY COOL family!
I know that one of the purpose of auditions is to get to know the person to see if we will get along well, after all we will be spending lots of time together during the shooting, and since I wasn't having auditions, I had to do that through the phone.
So I called them.
And it was fun talking with them.
I did talk with a few more lovely actors which made it even more complicated to close the final cast because they seemed brilliant.
So I also had to get technical to close it before the end of the day: match age, height, and little things like that.
And it all worked out perfectly, and by the end of the night the cast was named and closed!
The following day I only met Nicole/Becky for rehearsal since we had lots of work together through the film so it would be nice to know each other a bit before the shooting day.
And after 5 minutes with her I couldn't stop telling her how happy I was that I followed my instincts without wasting time with auditions, and she was even more adorable in person than on the phone, and it was like we were true sisters instantaneously!
Then at the shooting day I met Andrew/Pete and he was absolutely lovely!
I'm mentioning how lovely and adorable they were, because that was the first thing I learnt about them, and when we started shooting, I was amazed what amazing naturaly gifted actors they were!
I was about to cry with happiness that the TRULY COOL cast was so brilliantly bringing the film to life!
Because of all the rain we had to postpone the rest of the shooting schedule for the following week, so I just got to meet Chris/Anton on the second week, and he was very lovely too, first for being totaly cool with the rescheduling, and then he was also very efficient and nailed the scenes very quickly so we could get everything done and get out of the there before the storm falls.
I'm happy and proud for having Nicole Mazurek, Andrew Rix and Chris Mohen as the TRULY COOL CAST!
